Tom McCall Preserve - Coaster

$10.00
This piece was inspired by one of my favorite spots in the Columbia Gorge in Oregon. Located between the wet, heavily forested west side of the Cascades and the drier, prairies of the east, Tom McCall Preserve blooms spectacularly in the spring. If you catch the preserve just right you are rewarded with bursts of orange and red Indian paintbrush, yellow balsam root, purple lupine and other colorful wildflowers dotting the hillsides.
A hike leads to a vista overlooking the mighty Columbia River. Numerous birds sing as you move through gnarled trees
This painting reflects that contrast. Bold color and simplified forms capture the feeling of spotting paintbrush flowers while hiking, where the landscape feels wide and open, and the flowers feel both delicate and strong. The composition moves between the grounded weight of the mountains and the lively presence of the blooms.
Rather than focusing on botanical detail, this piece is about the experience of encountering color in the wild. Goat Rocks Beauties celebrates the way these flowers line mountain paths and quietly become part of the memory of being there.
