Title: Goat Rocks Wilderness

Ebony pencil on paper

Size: 15 × 12 inches

This drawing takes me back to my first backpacking trip in the Goat Rocks Wilderness in Washington State. I set up my tent beside a waterfall, overlooking a herd of elk moving quietly through the landscape below.

The days were filled with small, unforgettable details. Marmots played in the snow near a lake above camp, and mountain goats climbed the nearby peaks with ease. From where I stood, Mt. Rainier rose in the distance, adding to the sense of scale and stillness that surrounded everything.

I have tried to reflect the feeling of being fully immersed in that environment. It is about memory, observation, and the lasting impression left by time spent in wild, open spaces. It is about that moment of presence and the calm that comes from being part of the landscape rather than just passing through it.
